Oily Skin? Say NO to Drying Ingredients

Do you struggle with choosing skincare products for your oily skin type? Here are  a few helpful tips:

When choosing products for oily skin, it isn’t about choosing the most drying products to get your desired results of balanced skin. In reality, all you need to do is avoid three categories of skin care ingredients:

But, FIRST educating yourself is key.

Understanding Oily Skin

The first thing to understand is that oily skin isn’t always what it appears to be. You can have an oily complexion on the surface, but dry skin right underneath.

In fact, it may be hard to believe that a normally balanced oil production from your pores isn’t actually a bad thing. The excessive oils actually help to relieve dryness, maintain a healthy skin surface, and keep the skin pliable. Who would’ve thought?

The struggle is real when too much oil is being produced, which then causes pores to become clogged and enlarged. Clogged pores and oily skin have my skin thriving, said NO ONE!

Using super drying ingredients consistently to control oily skin may make your skin feel less oily initially, but will slowly create an imbalance and dehydration and your skin will create MORE oil to compensate. But, not any longer!

Caring for Oily Skin

Stay AWAY from ingredients, that:

  1. Tend to be harsh and strip the skin of natural oils, making it harder for your skin to keep itself hydrated. Instead, you are left with not only oily, but dehydrated and flaky skin.  Avoid: SD Alcohol, Denatured Alcohol, or Isopropyl Alcohol, Sulfates, Fragrance

  2. Contain oils with a high level of Oleic Acidthat contain high levels of fatty acids, which tend to heavily sit on the skin. Avoid: Unfractionated Coconut Oil, Cocoa Butter, Sesame Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Shea Butter.

  3. Contain occlusive emollientsthat are likely to clog pores and look greasy on the skin. Say goodbye to creams and thick formulas, while focusing on liquids, and weightless serums, lotions, and gels!  Avoid: Petroleum, Silicones, Sulfates, Lanolin, Propylene Glycol.

Step away from those harsh, drying ingredients and dive into products that make you and your skin feel amazing. Protecting that oily skin of yours doesn’t have to add to your stress level or leave you with long-term problems!
